Privacy Policy

Unscribble does not require an account and has no sign-up. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other contact information in order to use the app.

The app's free scanning is processed entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. The images you scan and the text recognized from them are handled locally and never leave your phone.

AI mode is optional and only runs when you choose to use it. When you send a page to AI mode, the selected page image is transmitted over HTTPS to our server (hosted on Supabase) and relayed to OpenAI's API for transcription. We store neither the image nor the resulting transcription; processing is transient. OpenAI's API terms state that data submitted through the API is not used to train their models.

If you choose to calibrate Unscribble to your handwriting, the calibration sample is stored only on your device. It is included with your AI requests to improve accuracy, and we do not retain it on our servers.

To enforce free-tier limits and keep the service fair, we keep minimal technical counters: an anonymized device identifier and coarse network-derived counters with monthly page counts. These counters are used solely for fair-use enforcement. They contain no content from your scans and no personal information.

We use PostHog for anonymous product analytics, keyed to a random per-install identifier. Events are content-free — for example, "scan completed" — and we never see your note text or images. Unscribble has no ads, does not sell data, and does not track you across other apps.

Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We receive Apple's transaction identifiers so we can verify your Pro entitlement, and refund notifications from Apple. We never see your name or payment details.

If you use Pro's sync feature, your scans sync through your private iCloud database, which is controlled by your Apple ID. Gold Bits cannot access it.

Deleting a scan in the app, or deleting the app itself, removes the associated local data. iCloud data can be removed through your device's iCloud storage settings. For anything else, email unscribble@goldbits.net.

Unscribble is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

If we change this policy, we will post the updated version at this URL with a new effective date.
